After 18 years of working at a screen, it hit me why I was feeling unfulfilled; I needed to make something physical with my hands. I traded atoms for bytes and haven't looked back since.
Vacuum chambers, extreme temperature kilns and cryogenic treatments are used to build each hand made knife. Think science lab rather than a dusty workshop.
Chop Knives is the moniker of artisan craftsman Craig Lockwood, a proud Welshman now making hand made knives from my little studio in rural France.
My desire to make is only matched by my desire to eat. I am greedy beyond belief. The kitchen has always been the favourite room of my house and I spend a huge amount of time cooking for my family. I’m happiest when I am prepping food for the family with a knife in my hand. Knives are the ultimate kitchen tool, simple, beautiful and no batteries required.
My fascination with knives started as a young boy. When the inevitable decision was made to walk away from my successful design career to create knives for a living, there was no doubt in my mind that I would be making kitchen knives.
Once the bug hit, I knew I had to be close to the home of the worlds finest culinary knives, France. So I set out with my wife and a dream; to become the best culinary knifemaker that I could possibly be. We found the quaintest of French villages, just a short ride from Thiers, THE place for knives in France.
I now produce hand made knives for some of the Worlds finest restaurants.
Mixing traditional processes with cutting edge technologies, Chop knives are built to stand up to the demands of a busy restaurant.
